Baccalaureate Mass

CommencementBaccalaureate Mass: Rose & Candle + Legacy Ceremony

The Baccalaureate Mass weaves two essential Barry traditions into one beautiful celebration during commencement season.

The Rose and Candle Ceremony realizes our commitment to veritas (truth in the light of a candle) and caritas (compassion in the form of a rose). It is a moving representation of Adrian Dominican values and a tender moment to recognize those who accompanied us, who went before us, and who continue after us on our shared Barry journey. Roses and candles can be claimed by graduates outside of Broad Auditorium before the Mass begins.

The Legacy Ceremony recognizes the multi-generational commitment to a Barry University education. The acknowledgement of Legacy graduates is a reminder of the power of our shared roots and the value of passing on tradition. Students must claim their graduation cord from the Office of Alumni Relations before the ceremony to be designated as Legacy Graduates.

These two indispensable and defining traditions of Barry University are intertwined into a sacred Baccalaureate Mass for our modern times. The prayerful service includes musical hymns, scriptural readings, and a call to communion. It is an intimate, yet expressive opportunity for the graduating class, surrounded by their loved ones, to pause and reflect on this rite of passage – and it is a final tribute to graduating seniors empowered to instill and build the beloved community we foster at Barry University.

All Academic Year 2025-2026 graduates of Barry University are encouraged to participate and invite their loved ones and guests to join.

Please RSVP here.
