Dean and Professor
School of Nursing
A nurse scholar, educator, researcher, and leader, Dr. Audrey P. Miller brings more than 30 years of clinical expertise, academic distinction, and community service to her new role as Dean of the School of Nursing at Barry University. Born in the United Kingdom to Jamaican parents and raised in Montego Bay before moving to South Florida, Dr. Miller draws inspiration from her late mother, a pioneering nurse leader, whose example ignited her own passion for healthcare and service.
Dr. Miller earned her Ph.D. in Nursing from Barry University, a Master’s in Nursing Education from Nova Southeastern University, and both her Bachelor’s and Post-Master’s Certificate as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner from Florida International University (FIU). A Certified Pediatric Nurse and Florida Board-Certified Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, she built a distinguished clinical career at Jackson Health Systems and the Miami Transplant Institute before holding a long-standing appointment at the University of Miami Health Systems. With decades of practice in pediatric liver and gastrointestinal transplant care, she has paired her clinical excellence with a deep commitment to nursing education.
At FIU’s Nicole Wertheim College of Nursing & Health Sciences, Dr. Miller rose through the ranks to become the first faculty member to achieve the full Clinical Professor rank in the Undergraduate Nursing Department. She also served as inaugural Program Director for several non-traditional BSN tracks and as the first leader of the Graduate Nurse Educator Program, leaving a legacy of curricular innovation and program development. A nationally recognized educator, she has received the FIU Faculty Senate Excellence in Teaching Award, the FIU Distinguished Alumni in Academic Nursing Education Excellence Award, and the National Black Nurses Association’s Nurse Educator of the Year Award. In 2024, she was named one of South Florida’s Top Black Healthcare Professionals and was inducted as a Fellow of the Academy of Diversity Leaders in Nursing.
Dr. Miller’s research centers on oral health and preventive care for underserved children and families. She has developed educational programs that have been implemented locally, nationally, and internationally, partnering with organizations such as the National Black Nurses Association, Colgate-Palmolive, Sigma Theta Tau International, and the Girl Scouts. Her scholarship is published in respected peer-reviewed journals and textbooks, and her leadership in securing a multimillion-dollar grant at FIU supported scholarships and faculty development to strengthen the nursing workforce.
As Dean, Dr. Miller brings vision, expertise, and a servant-leader spirit to Barry University’s School of Nursing. Dedicated to advancing health equity and preparing future nurses with excellence, compassion, and innovation, she continues to mentor and inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals.
