Biography

A finance executive and strategic leader, Ron Steiger brings more than two decades of experience in financial stewardship and public service to his role as Vice President for Business and Finance and Chief Financial Officer at Barry University. His career reflects a commitment to responsible resource management and using strong financial operations to advance the mission of complex institutions.

Steiger joins Barry University from Miami-Dade County Public Schools, where he spent nearly two decades helping guide the financial strategy of one of the nation’s largest public school districts. As chief financial officer, he oversaw a $7.4 billion budget and provided leadership across the district’s finance and business functions. Under his leadership, the district consistently received clean audit opinions and became one of a select number of school districts nationwide to receive the inaugural Government Finance Officers Association Award for Best Practices in School Budgeting.

Throughout his tenure, Steiger led initiatives that strengthened the district’s financial position and modernized its operations. His work supported credit rating upgrades, increased investment revenue and improved the systems used to manage public resources. A trusted communicator on complex financial matters, he also played a leading role in major funding initiatives and built strong relationships with government officials and community stakeholders.

Before becoming chief financial officer, Steiger served as chief budget officer, assistant chief budget officer and executive director at Miami-Dade County Public Schools. In these roles, he helped guide the district through significant financial challenges, strengthened its budget planning and introduced new approaches to forecasting and strategic decision-making. Earlier in his career, he held strategy and analytics roles with Leo Burnett and Arthur Andersen.

Steiger earned a Master of Business Administration from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management and his Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business. He is also an alumnus of the Eli and Edythe Broad Residency in Urban Education. As Vice President for Business and Finance and Chief Financial Officer, Steiger is committed to strengthening Barry University’s financial foundation and ensuring its resources support the University’s academic mission and long-term priorities.
